San Jose Parents Participating Nursery School was founded in 1951 by a group of dedicated moms and dads. We are a cooperative nursery school, administered and maintained by parents. Each class is directed by a credentialed teacher/director, experienced in early childhood education and development. Required parent participation ensures a high adult to child ratio, as well as low monthly tuitions.
At SJPPNS, we believe in the individuality of children. Play is the work of young children and, through a play-based curriculum, parents and teachers facilitate their social, cognitive and physical growth in a safe, trusting environment. Building each child's self esteem and autonomy is central to our philosophy and is basic to a child's social and academic success.

Sharon joined SJPPNS in the summer of 2005 after 25 successful years as a Vice President, buyer, manager and business owner in the retail industry. After experiencing SJPPNS as a participating parent, Sharon realized her passion for children and the importance of the education of young children. Sharon has a BA degree in Art History and a Directorship Certificate in Early Childhood Education.

Why a co-op

Co-op preschools benefit children, parents and the community. Taking part in a co-op preschool allows you to be involved directly with your child's early education and learn alongside your child. Your child will always know that education is important in your family, because you live it everyday. Most importantly, choosing a cooperative preschool gives you extra time to bond with your child and create memories together.

Our program supports a child's learning through play, discovery and hands-on experiences. We provide a child centered curriculum that focuses on the needs, abilities, and interests of the young child. Art at SJPPNS is a creative experience of discovery. Children are encouraged to experiment with a variety of materials such as paints, paper, clay, wood, fabric, and items found in nature to create their own masterpiece!

Fundraising helps San Jose Parents Participating Nursery School keep tuition low and fund school improvements, curriculum, field trips, scholarships, and more. Our approach is to offer SJPPNS members a wide range of fun, family-oriented fundraising activities that support the community spirit that is so much a part of the school philosophy.
