First Congregational Church Nursery School offers a play-based parent participation program for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds. We believe that a play-based curriculum not only best matches developmentally appropriate expectations for these ages, but also yields the soundest of educational environments for the young child.

Inviting parents to participate first-hand in this environment serves not only to provide them support and education in their role as facilitators of their child's development, but also allows for the fullest expression of the community of growth we seek to establish. It is our privilege to share these wondrous years with families.

About
Report
The First Congregational Church Nursery School was established in 1963 in Palo Alto, California with the purpose to not only serve the families of the church but also to fulfill the mission of reaching out to the broader community. Since its inception, "First Congo" as it has affectionately become known, has operated independently from the church where the facility is located.
Our Core Values
Report
It is our intent to nourish the growth and development of children at First Congo such that they are ready and eager to embrace the learning opportunities that lie ahead for them. It is our purpose to provide a program that reflects our present knowledge of human growth and development. Based on that knowledge, the underlying premise of our program is that young children learn best through play.
Our Staff
Report
All of our staff members are experienced and exceptional early childhood educators, chosen for their qualities of warmth and support of families. First Congo has a very low teacher turnover rate, and our staff takes full advantage of their many years of combined experience to promote a collaborative and collegial atmosphere in our community of learners.
Olders Program
Report
The program for the Olders is similar to that described for the Youngers, but the offerings are enriched and expanded to accommodate the development of our oldest class, including the addition of bike time each week. The Olders class receives exposure to pre-academic readiness activities that facilitate a successful transition and integration into the kindergarten environment.
Extended Day Program
Report
For the 2020-21 school year, four and five-year-old children who are participating in our M/W/F Program are invited to extend their day at First Congo two times a week. Children are welcome to stay for lunch and a small group activity on either Monday or Wednesday. This group will be no larger than 12 students (half the class) and the activities week to week will vary upon the seasons, the curriculum and the interests of the group.
