Hackley parents across generations talk about building close friendships and relationships among the fellow parents they meet as volunteers and as fans on the sidelines, the parents of the friends with whom their children grow and learn.

Perhaps because Hackley draws students from so many towns, the school community itself becomes the world we share and make together, supporting each other, sharing wisdom and carpools, looking out for each other's children and sustaining the commitment to the school's motto, "United, we help one another."

History
Report
The Middle School history program endows its students with the ability to think critically and independently in the study of history and the social sciences as they link the issues and challenges of the past with our own time. History is more than simply memorizing dates and names; it is a deeply humanistic discipline that builds perspective, empathy, and insight into the reasons behind political and military decisions and actions.
History
Report
The Upper School history curriculum, from required courses to senior electives, is grounded in the basic understanding of the historical enterprise. Students develop and apply reading, writing, note-taking, oral, visual and analytical skills to the acquisition and analysis of historical facts.

Our students engage in independent research, learn how to make effective fact-based historical interpretations, to understand their own inherent intellectual biases, and to appreciate that their acts of interpretation are a perpetually incomplete undertaking within the ongoing effort to understand history's impact and the perspectives we gain from it.Required for ninth-graders.

Portrait of a Hackley Graduate
Report
Hackley faculty members explored and answered a fundamental question: What habits and skills do we want to develop in our students across a K-12 spectrum? The answer is found in the Portrait of a Graduate. In partnership and conversation with one another across divisions and departments, faculty members helped create the aspirational vision shared below.
