Welcome to Ravinia Nursery School, a leader in preschool education for two to five year olds on Chicago's North Shore since 1926. As a developmental preschool, we encourage children to learn through play. A warm nurturing environment is provided so that children feel safe to move at their own pace, and in their own direction.
The intimacy of Ravinia allows each child to create their own unique experience and make Ravinia their own special place. At Ravinia, we see children as part of our family. Our students leave Ravinia knowing that school is a wonderful place of exciting discoveries where important friendships are nurtured, families are involved, and where they will always be welcomed by caring adults.

About Our School
Report
In 1926, Peggy Riser, the first teacher and director of Ravinia Nursery School, welcomed a dozen students into her Ravinia home. Today, as one of the oldest preschools in the state of Illinois, RNS has grown and matured with maintaining the coziness of home. In 1958, under the leadership of its Director, Rosalie Weinfeld and the Board of Directors, funds were raised to build "the Little Blue School" on Red Oak Lane.
Philosophy
Report
Our mission at RNS is to provide a quality preschool education to the children and families with whom we work. Because we view children in the context of their family, we view our relationship with our families as a partnership between home and school. RNS is a developmental preschool for children ages three, four and five years old.
Curriculum Objectives
Report
Our environment is structured in such a way that learning is ongoing throughout the day. The classrooms and playground is designed to stimulate and encourage the children to be curious, to question and to explore the world as he or she is ready. Materials are present which allow the child to progress and develop at his/her own pace.
