We are a small non-profit, parent participation, play-based preschool where children, parents and teachers are fully involved in an interactive process of learning. Play is the work of children and it is through play that children learn and make sense of the world. Our preschool provides a rich, hands-on learning environment fostering the whole child -intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.
SPNS provides large indoor and outdoor spaces, complete with age-appropriate equipment so that children can get down to the business of play. Each class' developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily schedule is designed so that children have freedom to explore and practice skills as well as participate in teacher-guided group activities.

Since 1970, our preschool has provided a vibrant learning community for families in San Carlos and surrounding cities. Because parents work in the classroom once a week, the adult-to-child ratio is exceptionally high, offering children supervised activities all around the large play space. SPNS is a play-based, developmentally appropriate program that prepares children for today's kindergarten and beyond.
Upcoming Events

Due to the volume of interest in summer camp, SPNS will apply its' priority admissions model; you will find details upon registration. The general daily routine includes an opening circle time with fun movement and songs, activities and learning related to the theme, lots of open-ended free play, snack time and a closing circle with story time.

We believe that play, especially with peers, is one of the most important experiences of childhood and that it is through play that children learn and grow. Our approach to early learning is rooted in developmentally appropriate, play-based values. Recognizing that each child has a unique learning style, unique abilities, and a unique developmental growth arc.
Children's Programs

This class offers a supportive first-group experience for you and your toddler. Our parent-child class -designed for mom, dad or grandparent- is an unhurried and fun introduction to the co-op preschool environment. Parent education is offered on the go by way of observations, weekly questions and while you meet other parents and discover your child as they play and learn.
Special Days
Report
Special visitors are invited to the Explorers class and enhance the themes and concepts children are learning during that week (i.e safety, farm animals, community, etc.). The Pre-K students are ready for some adventures outside of school and field trips provide them with an opportunity to expand their learning experience.
