Outstanding Warrants
Report
Outstanding warrants can be verified in two ways: by the Texas Department of Public Safety, or by checking with the jurisdiction in which the warrant was issued. To clear a warrant that was issued outside of Travis County, a bondsman is usually recommended. If you are seeking information on warrants issued by other jurisdictions, you can check by contacting the respective jurisdiction.
Bonds
Report
There are three different types of bonds available; personal bonds, cash deposit bonds, and surety bonds. It may also be possible to reinstate a bond that has previously been forfeited if the court has not yet taken a judgment on the bond forfeiture. If a bond that has been forfeited cannot be reinstated, you must post a new bond to clear the warrant or to secure the defendant's release from jail.
Basic Rights
Report
In many cases, the arresting officer will attempt to elicit incriminating statements from you. An officer may try to accomplish this by intimidating the arrestee. Or, he may falsely explain to the person arrested how the punishment will be lighter, how a jury will look upon him more favorably or how it is perfectly understandable that a person could have committed the particular crime.
Dwi
Report
Driving while intoxicated is the only offense in the entire Penal Code whereby the prosecutor can attempt to secure a conviction against you based solely on the opinion of a single arresting officer. In addition to a term of probation, a hefty fine and possible jail time, the Department of Public Safety imposes a surcharge ranging from $3000 to $6000 for a conviction for driving while intoxicated.
Jail Information
Report
Jail information is not available until the defendant has formally been booked into the jail. Although a bond cannot be posted until the bond amount has been set, if the arrest paperwork has been submitted, the attorney may sometimes expedite the setting of the bond by waiving magistration. A defendant in a misdemeanor case can be held in jail for up to 24 hours before there is a bond amount set.
