Please note that terms used in the martial arts often are specialized terms and may be used differently in conversation. Japanese who are not martial artists are often not familiar with these expressions. For example, the term "nukiuchi" means "suprise attack" in martial arts but in schools it means "pop quiz".

1. Seek perfection of character. As we perfect our karate techniques our true character becomes apparent. We need to continue to improve the quality and strength of our techniques to further improve our character. Do the "right" things. 5. Guard against abuse of skill. As our skill increases the danger of harming others also increases.
