Services
Wado-Ryu Karate Training
Our Wado-Ryu Karate training combines striking techniques with defensive maneuvers rooted in Japanese martial arts tradition. Classes emphasize physical conditioning, self-defense applications, and character development through Dojo Kun principles. Students learn forms (Kata) and sparring (Kumite) while cultivating mental discipline aligned with the style's emphasis on conflict avoidance and harmony.
Tournament Preparation
We prepare students for local, national, and international karate competitions through specialized sparring drills and Kata refinement. Our competitive team participates in annual events like the USA Wado-Ryu Karate Championships and International Wado Championships. Training includes strategy development, rule navigation, and performance coaching under 7th-degree black belt Shoji Nishimura's guidance.
Martial Arts Seminars
Regular seminars feature guest instructors from Japan and global Wado-Ryu organizations. These intensive sessions focus on advanced techniques, historical context, and philosophical teachings. Participants engage in demonstrations, group practice, and Q&A sessions covering the style's evolution since its 1938 founding by Hironori Otsuka.
Dojo Kun & Rules
Our training environment follows Dojo Kun principles emphasizing respect, discipline, and personal growth. Rules govern conduct during practice, belt testing procedures, and student interactions to maintain traditional karate etiquette. These guidelines reflect Wado-Ryu's philosophy of using martial arts as a path to self-improvement rather than mere combat proficiency.
Karate Competition Gear
We provide essential protective gear for practice and competitions, including regulation head guards, chest protectors, hand guards, and mouthpieces. Heavyweight Karate Gi models withstand rigorous training while meeting Wado-Ryu uniform standards. All equipment meets safety requirements for sparring and tournament participation.

5 year old started taking Sensei Nishimura's class in Huntington Beach last winter 2021. We are new to this but she's enjoying it so far!

It's virtually impossible to find a school still connected to their origins but every Wadoryu black belt from Sensei Nishimura is registered in Japan and their name hangs on a plaque in the main Tokyo HQ. The Grand Master also occasionally visits the Laguna Niguel dojo as he will in 2016, which is almost unheard. If you're looking for authentic traditional Japanese karate, this is the real deal, not a martial arts chain where you can pretty much buy a black belt. A 7th degree black belt, Sensei Nishimura is highest ranking active Wadoryu instructor in the U.S. and an inductee in The Masters
