Metropolis

This was hands down the best risotto I’ve ever had and I would highly recommend anyone come here for it. The Japanese style cheesecake was pretty unique and tasted great so if you’re looking for a dessert I would try this one! It’s also a great date spot because of the restaurant’s size and ambiance.

Portions are a little small for the price, even for the south end. Got the hash which was unfortunately mainly potatoes. My partner said the pancakes were awesome though, and they had a decent Bloody Mary!

Enjoyed our Saturday brunch at Metropolis, attentive staff, nice food and great music. Got Eggs Benedict, Pastrami Hash, Kir Royale cocktail 👌🏽 and Poloma cocktail. Will be back!

3 out of 3 times, Metropolis continues to exceed my expectations. I tried this place for brunch with my sister many years ago and was thoroughly enjoyed it. I tried the Metropolis Burger a few months ago, it was absolutely amazing. I'm not a burger person but my friend got it for me so I tried it. Not only did I finished it, I started to like burgers. We discovered this place by chance, and it was a great surprise! The restaurant has a very cute atmosphere (it is quite small), the staff was very welcoming, and the food was great, mouthwatering.
We got the mussels (their sauce is amazing), some flatbread, and the pan fried chicken. We didn't get drinks, so I can't tell how good they are.
Definitely recommended!

They have amazing brunch, the custom omelettes are amazing with awesome ingredients to choose from, and the pancakes just take like nothing I've had before.

My husband and I continuously regard Metropolis as the best restaurant in the South End! Walking by it can look unassuming but the food continues to be fantastic.

Breakfast: I'm not sure what they do to the pancake but it is one of the best I've ever eaten. It tastes slightly vanilla-y and with the combination of the syrup it continues to be a favorite

Dinner: the roasted garlic olive oil is amazing as is the bread the serve it with. Our favorites are the rigatoni (slightly spicy and delicious sauce), chicken (pan fried on top of delicious mashed potatoes), and the salmon is perfectly

Affordable place in the south end, and presents a great alternative to some of its more expensive neighbors. I will say though that the seating and service was a bit under par. Time to provide food took a very long time (we had to flag staff twice for an ETA and placing orders), and our waitress was a bit abrasive when seating us. Space was a bit tight understandably, given COVID but they have made the most of it regardless. The chicken and mushroom risotto was terrific.

We ate outside on a perfect Saturday evening...wonderful, wonderful service...dinner was scrumptious. The rigatoni, apparently on their menu for 20+ years, was out of this world. And I can't say enough about our server, Isabella. She was fantastic.

The wait staff was very nice and friendly, but service was very slow even when there weren’t many people in the restaurant. Food was fine — the Brussels sprouts were good, salmon was quite tasty and crispy on the skin but the accompaniments were not tasty. The the veggie side was also quite heavy and didn’t taste good. Okay experience overall.

The wait staff were wonderful. We were able to be seated right away at the bar on a Friday night. The drinks were delicious (the rum punch & strawberry margarita). My brother and were splitting an entree which they actually plated onto two bowls for us which I've never seen a restaurant do. Would come here again. The chicken & mushroom risotto & the brussel sprouts were delicious. The veggie side was ok.

I'd never been to Metropolis before but my friend recommended it. When I peaked at the menu I loved seeing all the risotto options. I ordered the asparagus and mushroom risotto and my boyfriend ordered the chicken risotto. I gotta say I should've gone with the chicken risotto, it just had a deeper flavor that I felt was missing in the asparagus dish. Also, I don't know if I'm just cheese obsessed but I would've liked more cheese or the option to add some on to my risotto.

Can't leave a review and not mention the roasted garlic that is served with the bread, honestly

The service was amazing, the drinks were amazing, and the crab cakes were TO DIE FOR. I am from Seattle and I have been eating crab cakes my whole life, and these were by far the best I have ever had. I would go back for them alone. On top of that the cucumber twist drink was very tasty. Our uber was running late and they were closing, but the server let us stay inside to wait despite being close. I can not recommend this adorable spot enough. I will 100% be returning.

My favorite restaurant in Boston. The menu is very eclectic and the ambiance is quaint. I always come here when I'm in town

I took my mom to Metropolis on a cool New England day hoping for a delicious dinner in a cozy restaurant, and that's exactly what we got. I appreciated that the table had hand sanitizer and everything was clean. The server recommended two items on the menu that were fan favorites and they did not disappoint. The chicken and truffle mushroom risotto was delicious. Creamy and flavorful and fresh. It tasted homemade in the best way. The rigatoni was creamy and hearty as well, although I personally could have used more chili flakes and Parmesan flavor. The crumbled fennel sausage was generous

Brussels sprouts - They are tossed in a delicious sauce, combining sweet with a bit of spicy. The ranch dipping sauce finishes them off perfectly! I could do without so much fried batter on them, but it's easy to break off as needed

Crab cakes - fried so lightly that they melt in your mouth. The perfect crab cake

Butternut squash risotto - a wonderful fall dish. The nuts, apples

Ordered hacked chicken+’shrooms risotto (chicken, local roasted mushrooms, perigord truffle butter), rock shrimp risotto (summer corn, palacio chorizo, fire roasted peppers, thyme & parmesan) and the rigatoni (crumbled fennel sausage, chili flakes, sweet marsala & parmigiano) for take out.
Hearty portions and comes with bread (slightly crunchy/chewy crust and soft tangy interior). The rock shrimp risotto was flavorful and summery. Chicken risotto was a bit salty. Rigatoni al dente and sauce had the slight fennel flavor.

This review is for their Dine Out Boston menu ($33/person for 3 courses), so it may not be the most representative of their regular menu. Sadly the Dine Out Boston menu was a big disappointment...

The meal started with some tasty bread that came with roasted garlic in olive oil. The bread was awesome-- super soft on the inside with a chewy crust. This made me very hopeful for the rest of the meal, but unfortunately I think the bread was the highlight for me.

Great date spot. My wife and I live around the corner from this place and finally made it over. We were very satisfied. I had the duck breast and my wife had the rigatoni. Both were amazing. The duck was basically perfectly cooked and flavor was awesome. The sauce of the rigatoni was also very good.

The service was great and we'd definitely go back with some friends. The place is tiny and reservations were tough. We went really early on a Saturday afternoon and we were okay.

Over ten years later and Metropolis is still a stand out. The menu is largely unchanged - chicken, veal (well, really the cauliflower gratin side) and rigatoni all phenomenal. Salads are all really solid and the Brussels sprouts dish is a sleeper on the app menu. Simple cocktails and solid wine list. And best of all, it's cozy as all heck.
Though I no longer live in SoEnd, it's places like Metropolis that make me miss it desperately. Ask any local to the 'hood and it'll be on their top 5 list, trust me
