Our building first opened its doors in 1925 as the Northeast Portland YMCA. Originally built to provide transitional low cost housing for men and boys, the YMCA began offering co-ed programs in the 1930s. In 2005 the Northeast Community Center was formed, carrying on the fitness and wellness heritage to become an integral part of the fabric of the surrounding neighborhoods while strengthening the bonds that create community.

This experience was horrible aside from the instructor being friendly. The facility was very old and not up to standards of cleanliness. The floor felt like slime and the hot room was unbearable. The floor felt like slime, there was rust in the pool area and the pictures online were absolutely edited or from somewhere else.
When I politely explained this wouldn’t work for us I was met with rudeness, attitude and no accommodation from the “manager” working today at 3pm
My son did not feel comfortable alone and because it was completely up to him to keep himself from falling in his very first

I had a bad experience with Northeast Community Center. I signed my child up for swim lessons there. We’ve used Portland Parks & Rec in the past but Northeast Community Center is closer to where we live so I thought we’d give it a try. We had a miscommunication with the staff and we put my son in a level that was too challenging for him. We told them we didn’t feel comfortable continuing with the class but they said they couldn’t switch him and our only option was to continue the class. I asked for an account credit so we could sign him up for the next session of lessons, and they said

The place is amazing. Been there four years, and almost exclusively swim; the pool is arthritis rated, which means a bit warm for most. But for those with joint or muscle issues, it's a dream. The activities, the facility, and the community camaraderie feels like another planet away from the city and the traffic and the hustle to nothing.

I called in and spoke with a very nice woman who gave me details about membership (52.00 per month and free child watch). The child watch was the biggest draw for me because I need to be able to bring my children. I drove down and filled out an application, waited about 15 minutes before someone could help me. Then they told me that they are no longer including child watch in their membership and children must be members before they can be watched. So that bumps it up to 65.00 a month. I wish that had been communicated more clearly either on the phone or on their website so that I wouldn't have

This center really knows how to go above and beyond. The facility is clean and the staff is friendly! The indoor pool is perfect for Portland's rainy weather and is a great addition to the neighborhood. I love their large gymnasim where ceiling to floor mirrors line the wall and are great for any aerobic and dance class. The prices aren't asking too much for monthly memberships. I love the local aspect and that when you go you see a lot of the families from your block!
