Call
French American International School
I conduct my Zoom calls not far from my daughter's desk, and hear her erupt with laughter constantly. We are so happy to be part of the FAIS family. Our daughter has loved every minute. Her teachers have been incredible in inspiring her to love learning, embrace her curiosity, and develop great friendships.

I truly feel that the educational experience I received at FAIS has had a greater impact on my future than my high school and college experiences combined. Our experience at the elementary school and middle school have been beyond our expectations. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program empowers them to be well-rounded students of life.

But our Mission and Guiding Principles-as well as our Core Values and Characteristics of Professional Excellence-are what tie it all together.
Governance & Board of Trustees
Report
FAIS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization governed by a Board of Trustees that does not represent a particular interest group, government, or church agency. The Board oversees the financial management of the School, engages in long-range planning, and sets school policy.

It reviews the FAIS Strategic Plan on an ongoing basis, and consistently communicates with our community about the School's goals and how they will be achieved; however, the daily management and operation of the School is the sole responsibility of the Head of School. The Board of Trustees comprises both parent members and community members who serve a term of three years and no more than two consecutive terms.
Language Immersion
Report
Language immersion is more than learning another language. FAIS uses language as a lens to help students understand other cultures, think with a global perspective, and navigate the broader world around us. As the longest-established language immersion school in Portland, FAIS builds this foundation in Early Childhood/Maternelle and Lower School and expands upon it in the Middle School.
Curriculum
Report
Fully accredited by the French Ministry of Education and authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) from preschool through 8th grade, FAIS is also accredited by the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS).

This unique learning environment helps prepare our students for high school and beyond by combining the small class sizes and strong academics of a private school with the long-term benefits of the French curriculum, IB, and language immersion.FAIS uses play-based inquiry in a nurturing French immersion learning environment as a springboard to the IB Primary Years Programme for preschool through 5th grade.
