Motivated by their own children's struggles, The Village Tutors was formed in 2004 when a group of women, formerly known as The Reading Ladies, began to provide one-on-one, evidence-based, Orton-Gillingham based support for grade-school students who struggled in reading. As these early students became middle school and high school students and their needs changed, the tutors expanded their services.

Math + Science/Content Areas

Our tutors provide academic support in Math, including grade school and middle school curricula, high school Algebra I and II, Geometry, Alg 2 Trig, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Calc AB/BC. The Village Tutors can support general, college-prep and honors/AP levels. We are well versed in math curriculums used by local school districts.
Executive Function Skills Building + Homework Support

Executive functioning is partially defined as being able to put "work before play." Students often need coaching in how to create an environment that maximizes on-task behavior and minimizes avoidance behaviors to reduce anxiety and improve academic performance. Our tutors are trained in the Rush Medical/Neurobehavioral Center's Executive Function Skills Building Program(C).
Learning Differences

The Village Tutors provide flexible, compassionate support for students with learning and behavioral differences. These areas include students with dyslexia, ADHD/ADD, twice-exceptional (gifted) differences, processing challenges, non- verbal learning disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, high-functioning autism spectrum disorders, mental health struggles, and youth who at risk.
