Friends provides a warm, safe, supportive, and creative environment for children to grow and learn. The teachers at Friends strive to foster the uniqueness of each child, while encouraging respect and tolerance among all the children. Our answer to the pandemic is an almost exclusively outdoor school.
The children dress for the weather and continue to enjoy imaginative play, seasonal crafts, friendships and kindergarten readiness with the added bonus of a lot of outdoor play and nature education. Our Facility

Located in Ridgewood, NJ, our facility consists of a large, open classroom with giant windows to the outdoors which lets in a lot of natural light. We have two reading rooms, a fully functioning kitchen, and an upstairs meeting room for special events. The students play on our fully fenced in playground every day that it is sunny.

Our curriculum is implemented through circle time, project centers and imaginative play areas. These are carefully designed to help preschoolers develop physically, intellectually and emotionally.
Our objective is to provide a positive first school experience and to create a nurturing environment that will motivate the child to try new experiences, solve problems in a creative way, teach conflict resolution and tolerance, as well as to encourage the child's aesthetic sensitivity.

Activities

At Friends, there is a heavy emphasis on free-play and authentic learning. Throughout the year, students engage in a number of activities such as a field trip to Secor pumpkin farm, a "trip around the world" with parent and grandparent visitors who share about their various cultures and countries of origin, a bi-weekly music class, and yoga and mindfulness.

Our Curriculum varies from year to year. This is an example of the types of units that we cover in a school year. We integrate language, math, science and a socio-emotional perspective into each unit of study. We also study themes of children's choosing. Sneaky Snake and Sally Snake - these mascots take all the letters throughout the year.
