We are having fun charter fishing the waters around Anna Maria Island, Sarasota Bay and the Manatee River in Bradenton. The weather has been hot and muggy, as expected this time of year, but the inshore bite has been equally hot! My fishing excursion clients have been finding continual, exciting backwater.
It's smoking hot by mid-day, which somewhat limits fishing options later in the day. One great option is permit fishing on many of our near shore wrecks and reefs off of the Anna Maria Island coast. Many of these structures are located less than 9 miles off of our gorgeous beaches. Fishing action was the typical "heat of the summer" fishing frenzy, both inshore and near shore.

Fishing Reports
Report
June fishing has been the month of the snook and seatrout! When conditions are right, groups are catching snook and/or seatrout, until their arms get tired! Most of these spots are in less than 5' of water, and fish are being caught on live bait, but lures do work in these situations as well.
We still have the near-perfect combination of water temps and weather, plenty of baitfish, all coinciding with migrations of gamefish like; tarpon, gag grouper, snook, redfish, seatrout, spanish mackerel, black drum and more inside Tampa Bay, and surrounding areas.Mangrove snapper and Spanish mackerel fill the void for dinner out there in the same areas.

Sheepshead are a great winter-time target. They will feed aggressively when most of our other local species are sluggish from the cold water. Sheepshead are also fantastic on the plate, sporting firm, white, flaky fillets. The commercial fisherman who make a living catching stone crabs usually have several hundred, to several thousand traps in the water at any given time.
February
Report
Fishing around Tampa Bay and Anna Maria Island this time of February can really be a challenge when the cold winds are whipping. I had to re-schedule some trips over the last couple weeks but all in all we have been able to catch nice fish in the backwater areas. On the cold, windy days, fishing around docks in the Intracoastal Waterway or Holmes Beach and Longboat Key canals has been very productive for sheepshead, black drum and redfish.

Report
Chilly mornings begin to give way to picture perfect weather by late morning. My clients have been thrilled to have some incredible snook action so early in the year. We are targeting the linesiders during strong tides, using live shiners, around mangrove points, cuts, sandbars and docks. We are seeing a few bonus redfish mixed in with the snook.
April
Report
Mangrove snapper and Spanish mackerel fill the void for dinner out there in the same areas. Anna Maria Island fishing excursions for folks on vacation have been great in April. The Tampa Bay weather has been windy but there are myriad stretches of mangrove shoreline to hide from the wind.
That's where the springtime snook lay in wait to attack unsuspecting shiners, shrimp, crabs and other prey as they are washed across sandy potholes with the tides. The water temperature in Tampa Bay has broken through the "magic" 70°F" mark, and has stayed there for weeks now. This has opened the floodgates, so to speak, on all sorts of fishing.
