Tutoring Plus was founded in 1964 when a group of Cambridge mothers came together, determined to provide more academic support for their children. The Mother's Executive Committee of the Cambridge Neighborhood House established an initial partnership with the MIT Social Service Committee, a student group that had been inspired to local action by President Johnson's War on Poverty.
This partnership launched one of the longest-running out-of-school-time academic programs for Cambridge youth. What began as matches meeting at kitchen tables has grown to a center-based model that provides over 170 students with free tutoring, mentoring and enrichment support each year.

We are excited to welcome students back in-person for fall 2021 and to open two new program sites at Finch Cambridge and Rindge Towers! For nearly 60 years, Tutoring Plus has provided free programs that support Cambridge youth in their academic, personal and social growth. We believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to learn and grow.
Volunteer

As a Tutoring Plus volunteer tutor/mentor, you will be thoughtfully matched with a student and meet with them on a weekly basis. We ask our volunteers to commit to one session a week for a minimum of one semester. Review the website and submit a volunteer application if our programs seems like a good fit for you.
