From ten members with $10 deposits in a cigar box, to a charter serving more than 30,000 members primarily across Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania, Sun Federal Credit Union has a rich history. 1950 - Tol-Sun Federal CU opens to serve Toledo Sun Oil employees with $100 in a cigar box. 1971 - The Board of Directors opens membership to Sun Oil Company employees anywhere in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.

Total assets reach $2 million. 1985 - The CU merges Sun Employees CU of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania forming Sun Federal CU. Philadelphia and Radnor, Pennsylvania locations open. Total assets reach $25 million. 1993 - The CU welcomes its first Sponsor (Select Employer) Group, GEM Industrial of Toledo.
