Walleye are caught by boat, through the ice, from walleye fishing the lake shore or fishing the Maumee River and Sandusky River during the spring walleye spawn run. Lake Erie is a shallow lake compared to the other Great Lakes making for good habitat for the walleye existence and reproduction. Thus giving the name "Walleye Capital of the World".
