Susan and Duane Hoff were college sweethearts. While attending the University of Minnesota, Susan worked at a stereo shop called Sound of Music. By the time the couple married several years later, the company had grown to 12 stores - and by the time their first child was born, 50. No longer called Sound of Music, the store was now known as Best Buy.
Eventually they were both ready to trade fast-paced corporate lifestyles for a new way of life - one where they could start a business as a family. In 2004, Susan and Duane purchased a 53-acre parcel with a 10-acre vineyard and named it Fantesca Estate & Winery. The name of the winery comes from a character in the Italian comedy troupe that inspired Cirque Du Soleil.

Our 2019 Chardonnay is light straw in color with brilliant clarity. Aromas are complex with citrus, yeastiness, pear, honey and just a touch of sweet, toasty French oak. Across the palate, it could be mistaken for a French Burgundy with its minerality, lush mouthfeel and structure. The flavors match the aromas with layers of savory yumminess.

Great winemaking is a lengthy string of decisions, each choice impacting the quality and character of the wine. These decisions must be executed by a team committed to making the best wines they are capable of, and willing to get their hands dirty and grind it out in the cellar daily.
We are grateful for the care and attention to detail of our production team, and are proud to have them oversee the tanks and equipment necessary to ferment, barrel and care for Fantesca's wines.Fantesca Estate & Winery is home to about 70 olive trees of three different varietals.

Our Vineyard

Many aspects of viticulture and production impact a finished wine - the microclimate, the soil, the angles of sun exposure and of course, the way it is crafted and aged. Here is a glimpse at what makes Fantesca a special place. This wonderful saddle of land creates great challenges to farm. The changes in slope and elevation, along with variations in the soil over just 10 acres, make it a constant puzzle to coax out the best grapes.
Our Cave
Report
Legend has it that our cave, carved from a Spring Mountain hillside, was originally an abandoned silver mine. The consistent temperature and humidity of Fantesca's cave creates an ideal environment for aging wines. Our cave's environment is naturally cool - an essential aspect of wine storage once a wine has fermented.
