History
Report
The Si Lum Gung Fu club and its martial arts can trace its roots back to the Fabled Shaolin temple. Though most of the historical knowledge was passed down by word of mouth and training, it is rumored that most if not all martial arts stem from yoga and qi gong (pronounced chee gong). More recently, our school was founded by Si Gung Bill Smith over 20 years ago in a building in West Valley City.
Hung Gar
Report
Our Primary dicipline is Hung Gar kung fu and boasts some of the more famous martial artist that have been portrayed in books, movies, and stories the world wide. One of the most famous people of Hung Gar was Wong Fei Hung. Wong Fei Hung was one of the 10 tigers of china. This means that the man was virtually unbeatable by any martial means due to his diligence in practice and his understanding of the body.
Wing Chun
Report
Because of the way it was developed, Wing Chun starts with a rather unique stance for strength training and stability. Kin Yin Ma Bu is the basic stance which means "bent knee stance." Because this style was developed with narrow passages like alley ways and boats in mind, the stance itself is no wider than your own shoulders.
Hsing I
Report
Hsing-I (pronounced Shing ee) is one of our more mystical arts because it is what is known as an internal martial art. The famous general Yue Fei is thought to have founded the art if Hsing I for his officers as a powerful way to eliminate any foe with one blow. This style uses all of the chinese elements of fire, water, earth, wood and metal.
Tai Chi
Report
T'ai chi ch'uan translates as "Supreme Ultimate Fist" and is the second internal style taught at our school. Tai Chi can be used as an exercise for health benefits, as well as a useful Martial Art. While it is often practiced with slow movement, Tai chi also has secondary forms of faster pace. Tai chi is the practice of health, balance, and meditation.
