Since 1907, the Smith family has been farming 250 acres of land in Stony Point, North Carolina. In 1988, Alan Smith, the fourth generation of the Smith family farmers, began exploring the possibilities of composting the cow manure produced by his dairy cows. As the composting method was developed, he needed a name for the product.
