Burns Garfield Funeral Home is a fourth generation funeral home originally founded by E.P. Burns in the early 1900's. It was carried by J.P. Burns and then by Sehl Burns, and was located on West Onondaga Street. With the acquisition of Garfield Funeral Home on Westcott Street in 1979, the business became Burns-Garfield Funeral Home.

The end result: his grandfather relents and we learn his story. In the movie, it turns out (unbeknownst to his family and friends) that he is a war hero.
