The program was created by Loudoun County 4-H Leader Barbara Baird and Journalist and LCPS School Board Member Leonard Warner under the auspices of the Loudoun County Agricultural Extension Service. For 45 years, we've connected people with physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges to the healing power of horses.
We invite you to share our success stories, meet our horses, staff, and volunteers, and become a part of the wonder. LTR was one of the first centers in the U.S. to earn accreditation from the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).

Our Horses
Report
Gable was purchased in 2015 thanks to a generous gift from a donor for the honorable job of joining our driving program. He is a seasoned driving horse and also participates in LTR's therapeutic riding program. Gnomeo is a seasoned horse show veteran and our smallest equine. Being of small stature he is approachable for the most timid and tiny riders and also participates in our physical therapy (hippotherapy) program.
Board of Directors
Report
Even if you don't have an official diagnosis, even if you don't have something that you acknowledge troubles you every single day, you can allow yourself to be vulnerable in front of the horses, one, because they won't judge you. And two, because they can also read you. Horses are our mirrors. They can read you in a way that other people can't see.
Prospective Students
Report
An evaluation session is essential for prospective students. This session is a 30-minute meet-and-greet in the barn and sets a baseline to track the participant's progress through the program. Review the different types of Equine-Assisted Services LTR offers to see what might be right for you. LTR, Inc. is a PATH Intl.
Carriage Driving
Report
In addition to riding lessons, Loudoun Therapeutic Riding offers a carriage and cart driving program for those participants who cannot, or choose not to sit, astride a horse, yet can still benefit from the interaction with the horse and the equine activity.
This program develops communication skills, improves gross and fine motor skills, builds self-confidence, self-awareness, trust, and encourages students to form positive relationships in a socially and sensory rich environment.LTR even has a one-of-a-kind adaptive carriage that is wheelchair accessible, generously donated to us in 2013!
