Welcome to the freshest bag of coffee you'll ever find without roasting it yourself. Our beautiful beans are slow roasted in small batches with a watchful eye to produce artisan-quality coffee. Alexarc's craft is coffee, whether it's pulling the perfect espresso shot or making the most out of a humble filter sock.

In 2002 we launched The Black Drop Coffeehouse in downtown Bellingham with little more than a few nickels rubbed together and a whole lot of elbow grease. Over the years, we've learned how much we didn't know - we became obsessed with community, relationships, coffee, quality, and freshness.

We learned how to develop a cafe culture, hiring staff that we treated like family, and explored the most exacting standards of drink preparation - those embraced by the Specialty Coffee Association of America and the United States Barista Championship.We imbued our staff with these standards and focused on drink-making quality.
Cold Brew

Every season is cold brew season! Try our balanced blend of South American, Central American and African coffees designed to create the perfect cold brew. 10/10 very nice. Bags are industrial compostable, just remove the tin tie before putting in your city's compost stream. I am an admitted coffee snob.
Decaf Coffee

If you can't enjoy a beautiful pour of Alectrona, our Decaf Royale is a pretty good substitute. The crema is different from that of our espresso, but that's only because our decaf is Swiss Water Processed, which removes some of the oils along with the decaf. Other decaffeinated coffees are processed chemically, and we have avoided that by choosing Swiss Water Processing.
Best Ways to Brew Coffee

How do you enjoy drinking coffee? Well, then that's the best way to brew it. If you feel adventuresome or experimental, we are all for that. At home, Alexarc and Teri USED TO drink coffee french pressed. Alexarc USED TO grind the coffee at work and we used an electric kettle to heat the water (now we have a home burr grinder and grind the night before).

Aside from the school of hard knocks (aka Alexarc's 20 years working with coffee), Alexarc and Teri founded and operated The Black Drop Coffeehouse for seven years.

Alexarc has been trained as a barista competition judge by United States Barista Championship standards (also Canadian Barista Championship standards, which are pretty much the same!) Alexarc served as a judge for both regional and national competitions, focusing primarily on technical precision.
