At Outer Banks Surf School, our mission is to spread our love of Outer Banks surfing by providing a safe, positive, and fun surfing experience to students of all ages and skill levels. We specialize in on-site surf lessons and look forward to bringing the Outer Banks surfing experience to you, anywhere from Corolla to Hatteras.
We have several different surf lesson options available depending on your preference. We offer private surf lessons and surf camp packages. All of our surf coaches are CPR and First Aid certified, each with 20+ years experience surfing on the Outer Banks! We look forward to spreading our love of Outer Banks surfing with you!

Outer Banks Surf School was founded in 2008 by Kill Devil Hills local, Chris Hunter. Chris has been surfing on the Outer Banks and around the world for over 30 years. After graduating from UNC Wilmington, he decided to return home and share his love for surfing with locals and visitors alike. All instructors are CPR and First AID certified to provide you with safe and exciting memories.

Stand Up Paddle Lessons

Stand-up Paddle Boarding is a great way to spend time on the water while on the Outer Banks. We will teach the basic techniques of stand-up paddle boarding on land before we enter the water. Once on the water you will have a surf coach right by you the whole time to keep you safe and help you advance your skills.

Upon arrival, you'll meet your instructor(s) and get set up for onshore instructions. This typically takes 10-15 minutes depending on how quickly students catch on. From there, we'll get in the water and start surfing. Although most lessons are taught in shallow areas, there will be times when swimming is necessary.
