You arrive at your parent's home to take your mom to her doctor's appointment. You had scheduled the appointment months ago, and you called last night as a final reminder. You remind her of the doctor's appointment, and she casually brushes it off with an excuse that it slipped her mind. You think of how that has happened more and more.
Your parents, who once appeared to have it all together, may need more help as they get older. Although my presentation is awesome, I know that I'm going to sound like a little kid with my lisp. My teacher, Mr. Sims, told us communication is important, and giving speeches will happen throughout our lives.

Report
Having a speech impediment can significantly affect your daily life and ultimately your self-confidence. Working with a speech therapist can address your speech concerns, such as saying "wabbit" instead of "rabbit" or speaking with a lisp. During your sessions, you'll hear improvements with your production of target sounds.
Speech and Language
Report
Many clients comment that they want to sound their age and complain that their lisp or difficulty producing letters such as "r" or "s" prevent this. You may not have heard of "the magic rule of 8." By age 8, all speech sounds should be developed. For some, it continues to be difficult throughout adolescence and adulthood, which means you or your loved one produce "wabbit" when trying to say "rabbit."
Swallowing/Stroke Rehabilitation
Report
Dysphagia is defined as problems involving the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, or gastroesophageal junction. Simply put, if there is any trouble with consuming food, liquid, or medications once it is placed in the mouth, then this is dysphagia. This includes the chewing or manipulation of food or liquid inside the mouth, as well as difficulty, pain, or discomfort swallowing.
Dementia
Report
When someone talks about cancer, they commonly state what kind of cancer. People generally do not state what type of dementia, because they often think that someone has either dementia or Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's is the type of dementia someone has, and not all forms of dementia are Alzheimer's.
There are different types of dementia including Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Dementia, Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), Mixed Dementia, and Huntington's Disease. Therefore, a speech language pathologist completes an evaluation to determine what cognitive deficits are present and plan of care is most appropriate for the client.

Accent Modification
Report
Accents are a large part of the way we speak and serve as a representation of our cultural backgrounds. In this instance, your pronunciation of words will be influenced by the way you pronounce words in your primary language, as well as the sounds associated with that language. A geographical/regional accent is how people can decipher what part of the country is your 'home' base.
