In 1889 J.A. Rummele established Rummele's Jewelry in downtown Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He soon developed a reputation for quality and integrity. Henry Spiegel, a lawyer from Chicago, purchased Rummele's in 1946. He continued the fine reputation of Rummele by becoming a Registered Jeweler with the American Gem Society (AGS).

Mr Spiegel and his wife, Etha continued to operate the store for the next twenty years. In 1973 Mr. Spiegel retired and sold Rummele's to Jack Westerhof, manager of a jewelry store in Chicago. Mr. Westerhof also became a Registered Jeweler with AGS. In addition to this, he was certified in Diamond Grading through the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

Report
The word carat derives from the word carob, a Mediterranean seed, which has an extremely consistent weight for measuring. The greater the carat weight, combined with quality, the rarer, and more valuable the diamond becomes. Diamonds and other gemstones are weighed in metric carats: one carat is equal to 0.2 grams, about the same weight as a paperclip.
