Captain Mike has been a year-round Sitka resident for 40 years and has been on the waters of Southeast Alaska for the last 25 years charter fishing, commercial fishing, and diving. My father (82) and I booked a four day charter in mid-July, the end of king season and the beginning of Coho season. Over the course of the four days our coho catch was at least as good as any of the other boats our there.

Mike grew up in Michigan boating and fishing on the Great Lakes. He's now been a year round Sitka resident for over 40 years. Since moving to Sitka, Mike has been a professional forester, small business owner and pursued sport fishing and hunting in Sitka and interior Alaska. For over 25 years, Mike has been and is currently, a commercial fishing captain and harvest diver, as well as a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Charter Captain.

We have close to 14 miles of paved road that are not connected to any other location, a fact that contributes significantly to the character of the community. There are probably more boats of various types than residents, and Sitka has several miles of harbor. Our community lifestyle is centered around the ocean and the bounty it provides commercial, sport, and subsistence fisheries.
What We Fish For

Sitka is on the great migration highway of salmon that occurs each spring and summer from the North Pacific Ocean to all the streams along the west coast of North America. Justifiably so, Sitka is often times referred to as "the best salmon fishing on the west coast." These salmon are mint-bright and feeding salmon (as opposed to spawning salmon), so they bite more often and at all times of the day.
