Full mouth implants are an option for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth and are seeking to reconstruct their entire mouth for restored function and appearance. Missing teeth can lead to serious dental problems and can significantly inhibit a patient's ability to eat and speak. Full mouth restoration implants are most often placed with dentures or bridges, providing patients with a restored smile.
Gum Recession

Gum recession is when the gum tissue is lost around teeth and/or implants. It can occur on the front, back, and/or sides of a tooth or implant. The result of receding gums is root exposure that can sometimes cause root sensitivity to hot or cold foods or drinks. Aesthetics are also a common concern with gum recession due to a "long tooth" look or "black triangles" in between the teeth.

There are several causes of a gummy smile, including excessive gum tissue, excessive bone around teeth (sometimes causing short teeth and/or jaw protuberance), disproportionate jaw formation, a short upper lip, and/or a hyperactive upper lip.Dr. Holland will provide a thorough evaluation to determine the cause(s).

A healthy periodontium (healthy gums) is one where the gums are pink and absent of inflammation (no bleeding gums) and where there is no supporting bone loss. Periodontitis is when the disease progresses from the gums to the supporting structures (bone, periodontal ligament). Bone loss is noted as well as gum recession.
