MODERATION BREWING HARKENS BACK TO PRE-PROHIBITION TIME when small breweries were the favored gathering spots in neighborhoods. Locals came at the end of a long day for freshly brewed beer, conversation, and maybe a jug of brew for the road. Politicians plied their trade with constituents here, greasing the wheels of legislature with alcohol-within moderation, of course.
We are happy to finally announce that we are resuming draft beer after closing our taproom nearly 15 months ago. We are working tirelessly on rebuilding (and expanding) our beer garden so that we can all enjoy fresh drafts with Maine ingredients on site once again. Masks will be requested-in accordance with Maine CDC guidelines-when ordering a beer inside for the time being.

Before Prohibition, Mainers gathered in small neighborhood breweries for freshly brewed beer and conversation. These local establishments were beacons: they brought people together in the twilight hours after long days, inviting friends new and old to relax and enjoy the good times together.
Today, Moderation Brewing is reviving those time-honored traditions in our taproom and brewery, which dates back to at least 1875 and originally served as an American Express office for the town of Brunswick, Maine.It's possible that countless packages filled with moonshine passed through our doors and into Maine's ports, carried by defiant bootleggers until the day beer came back.

All of Moderation's beers are made with a majority of Maine-grown and produced ingredients-with a focus on seasonally foraged produce. Whether it's our fresh strawbeer beer or our lemon balm ale, we aim to showcase the bounty of local ingredients around our state. We utilize a variety of unique brewers yeasts originating from Norway, called kveik.
