Our mission at Big House Equestrian Center is to give our riders the skills necessary for a healthy, safe, and rewarding partnership with their horse, no matter the discipline. Results happen when rider and horse communicate as one. We accomplish this through the proven techniques of Centered Riding, a simple way of expressing the classical principles of riding.

When a riding instructor tells you "what" to do, Centered Riding answers "how" to communicate that to your horse. We teach this communication through increased body awareness, inhibiting old patterns and replacing them with a more balanced, free, and coordinated use of self, applied equally to all English and Western riding styles.
Services
Services
Report
Big House Equestrian Center distinguishes itself in many ways, but at the top of that list is the breadth of services that Susan offers. See how each of these services provides you and your horse with an individualized, healthy, and rewarding riding relationship, whatever your discipline or breed of horse.
Clinics workshops
Report
Susan offers various clinics at Big House Equestrian Center as well as the ability to travel to your farm (see below). You'll learn how to achieve an independent seat and how to move in harmony with your horse. This information applies to all disciplines. Clinics also include saddle fitting, basic obedience and ground training for the horse.
Lessons
Report
Big House Equestrian Center lessons are all individualized and customized for each student's needs. In addition to mounted lessons, Susan is skilled in evaluating a student's "use of self" through un-mounted sessions. These are very helpful for students to learn how to become more aware and balanced prior to getting on the horse.
Lectures & Demonstrations
Report
As a Level III Centered Riding Clinician, Susan's introduction to Centered Riding basics and techniques may be presented in lecture format or as a demonstration, with mounted or un-mounted examples. These typically include participation in un-mounted body awareness exercises and can be presented at various stables, equestrian centers, equine expos or other events.
