Surf Academy is a Collective of surfers committed to bringing people closer to nature through the act of riding waves. Marion Clark and Jamie Marcellus, the managing partners, are the protege of Mary Setterholm, US Surfing Champion, Hermosa Beach Walk of Fame Honoree, and Huntington Beach Surfing Walk of Fame Honor Roll.
Mary founded Surf Academy in 1999 and pledged to pass on her stoke when the next generation was ready. Marion, Jamie and their crew of quality surf instructors have taken the ball and run with it, expanding the core principles of Surf Academy with new and exciting programs that spread the stoke and love of surfing.

Our fearless leader. Marion is Managing Partner and Beach Programs Director for Surf Academy and The Surf Bus Foundation. When she's not busy writing grant proposals, coaching Surf Teams, organizing Surf Bus Days, and generally making all of this possible, she's caring for her one-year-old grommette, Wayan.

A Surf Academy private lesson gives you the undivided attention of your very own instructor, allowing for more direct feedback and the chance to catch many more waves. You can fine-tune your lesson to exactly what you are looking for from beginner to advanced skills. Create your own private surf lesson with up to three people!
FAQ Lessons

Yes, every Surf Academy lesson includes the use of a soft surfboard, rash guard and wetsuit. We are happy to teach you on your own equipment, if you prefer. If you are planning on bringing a fiberglass board to a group lesson it must have rubber tipped fins and a nose guard. Our instructors will determine if you can control your own board in a group setting.
Surf Camps

This Surf Team session is designed for high school aged surfers from beginner to advanced. Surf specific drills and techniques are explored and practiced to help each individual surfer hone their craft, whatever their level. Every Surf Academy program is executed with rigorous safety standards and proven teaching methods.
