Local Art & Handmade Crafts in Montague
Sawmill River Arts has been a vibrant artists collective for 14 years, located at the iconic Montague Mill on the Sawmill River waterfall. Our gallery showcases the work of 15 member artists and 18 consignor artists, all exclusively from the Western Massachusetts area. We offer a diverse range of fine art and handmade goods, including jewelry, ceramics, paintings, and woodworks, while supporting emerging artists through community outreach initiatives. Housed in the historic Montague Bookmill complex, we provide a unique shopping experience alongside a beloved caf and music shop. Our mission emphasizes collaboration, with at least one member artist present during operating hours to engage directly with visitors.

The gallerys rotating exhibits include two-month guest artist stays and one-day trunk shows, ensuring fresh offerings for returning patrons. Our commitment to local artistry is reflected in our membership structure, which allows artists to retain 100% of sales while contributing to gallery operations. The scenic location overlooking the Sawmill River waterfall enhances the visitor experience, combining natural beauty with creative expression. We maintain regular hours Thursday through Monday, with seasonal adjustments, and offer an online shop for broader accessibility. Community engagement remains central to our operations, as evidenced by our annual Small Works Show and partnerships with local artists.
