I went to Alida Engel for speech therapy for 4 years in order to better manage my stutter. Alida is a wonderful therapist and I would highly recommend her to others. A lot of our work together was based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, where I learned to accept myself and the way I speak. Alida helped me to identify where a lot of my speaking anxieties and insecurities were coming from and how to overcome these anxieties so that they no longer dictate the way in which I interact with others. Somewhat ironically, this has the effect of making ones speech more fluent, as it lessens the speaking

Alida was fantastic. My daughter is on the shy side and yet Alida immediately made her feel comfortable. Alida was clear with what my daughter needed and made the process enjoyable. I wholeheartedly recommend the Center for Speech and Learning.

We had a very positive experience with the Center for Speech and Learning. We were referred to Alida by our pediatrician as our 6 year old daughter was having articulation issues. Alida provided a thorough initial assessment and clearly explained her treatment approach and anticipated scope, which was very reasonable, and was met. She and her office partner, Gene, were professional and friendly, and communication was always very open and easy. Alida excelled at making the sessions enjoyable and productive for my daughter by encouraging her active participation without making her feel uncomfortable

As the mother of a trans-teenager, I truly can't say enough about Alida's services. Her sensitivity to the unique complexities of working with a young person transitioning from male to female informed every aspect of the therapeutic experience, from creating a safe and comfortable space to providing invaluable guidance in the form of concrete exercises and increased vocal awareness. In working with Alida, my daughter was able to find her true voice and with that, a newfound self-assurance she will certainly carry with her in all social situations going forward.
