Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend themselves against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese martial arts to create what we know today as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Here at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Carlsbad, we focus on the basic fundamentals of self-defense found in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. With traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a Gi or Kimono is used as the formal attire. Whereas in No Gi Jiu-Jitsu, as the name suggests, no Gi or Kimono is used and the formal attire is often t-shirt and shorts or a variety of rashguards and spats/leggings.
