We have provided Christian Education for 68 years for grades K-8. We believe in challenging our students academically while providing a nurturing Christ-centered atmosphere emphasizing honesty and respect with a positive attitude. In a challenging and inspiring Christian environment, West Portal Lutheran School exists to provide an exceptional academic experience for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Looking back, I am very grateful to have attended West Portal Lutheran for K-8. It afforded me a solid, well-rounded foundation in those critical years. The teachers made all the difference; they don't just help students thrive, but excel. We have many gifted athletes on the staff, including a fencing champion and motorcross champion. Our teachers had great motivators and mentors. Most of them were inspired by their parents to become educators and walk in their footsteps. All members of the faculty are driven by their faith and passionate about spreading God's love to their students.

West Portal Lutheran School is a ministry of West Portal Lutheran Church. In 1948, the dedication of West Portal Lutheran Church and parsonage took place at 200 Sloat Blvd. West Portal Lutheran School began shortly thereafter in 1951 with 59 children and 4 classrooms. Following significant enrollment growth, Haake Hall was dedicated in 1957 with a total school enrollment of 300 students.

Once the application with all required documents have been submitted, an assessment will be scheduled for your child. Upon acceptance to West Portal Lutheran School, a non-refundable, non-transferable tuition deposit of $1,350 for the 2022-2023 school year ($1250 for 2021-2022) will be due in order to guarantee your child's space in his or her class.
