Belmont Oaks Academy

Belmont Oaks Academy and Merry Moppet Preschool began in 1948 as a small, co-op nursery school located in the original Belmont City Hall. As enrollment grew, so did the need for early childhood curriculum. Founder Janet Graetz turned to San Francisco State to create the first-ever early child education class, taught at Merry Moppet.

On behalf of all of our faculty and staff, welcome to Belmont Oaks Academy and Merry Moppet Preschool. Founded in 1948, we are Belmont's oldest independent school serving over 365 students in preschool through grade 5. Belmont Oaks Academy and Merry Moppet Preschool are currently educating a third generation of students.

We educate the whole child, putting equal emphasis on intellectual development and social and emotional growth. We nurture students with full day and extended care options and delight them with a choice of elective after-school groups including computers, homework room, art, sports and free play. Our small student-to-teacher ratios mean that teachers get to know their students and their particular learning styles.
