We are very happy to let you know that Kadampa Meditation Center South Carolina will rent a new space in downtown Columbia! In November, we'll open our doors at 2000 Park Street. Our aim is to offer a place of refuge in the city where folks can develop and maintain peaceful minds through simple, practical meditation methods.
At the Festival, Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, Spiritual Director of NKT, will grant the empowerment of Buddha Green Tara and give teachings on The Path to Heaven, the transference of consciousness (powa) practice of Arya Tara. These teachings are open to everyone from complete beginners to those with previous experience.

I hadn't been to S Carolina since 2012, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how nice the meditation center is when I visited. The space is very clean and easy to be in, the community is very friendly, warm and welcoming, and I was impressed by the diversity of the people. If you're interested in meditation, this is an easy place to walk into.

This meditation center is NOT just a center to learn meditation techniques to just relieve our minds of the stress of modern everyday life. Although many of classes CAN be used as skill building classes for better meditation, this IS a Buddhist center and therefore the sacred teachings of the Buddha are part of each class. You do not have to be a Buddhist to be inspired by the teachings at this center. Plus it is a very welcoming center.
In addition, I have known NO person associated with this Kadampa Center to ever force Buddhism on anyone. Since I have been attending classes, I have only experienced

The Kadampa Meditation Center of South Carolina is a place of refuge from the daily frustrations and anxieties we all encounter. It's a place that's open to all who visit; everyone will feel welcomed. It's a place where you can be yourself, whoever you are, and you are accepted without prejudice.
The teachings are as useful and uplifting in our daily lives today as they were 2,500 years ago when Buddha gave them originally. Presented without any "hocus-pocus", the teachings are based on sound logic, but presented with love and compassion for all living beings. You can pick your level of involvement
