Eli Howard Surf School began in 1999. Aaron, the school's first student stood up and rode a wave for his first time at South Ponto (South Ponto/Carlsbad State Beach). Since Aaron, the school has come a long way. Eli Howard Surf School was founded by Leucadia locals Greg Eli Kessler, and Mike Howard Kessler.
