Jonathan Barker has taught over 35,000 one-on-one guitar lessons over the past 20 years and developed over 2,000 pages of original lesson material and counting. In addition to a degree in Music from Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo, CA) Jonathan has served as a faculty member with the National Guitar Workshop (Workshop Live) and been a part of a variety of musical projects-both in the studio and on stage.
He's played in jazz combos, big bands, folk duos, musicals, as well as reggae, R&B, hip-hop, blues, punk and indie rock groups. If you're new to guitar, you'll start off by learning the key fundamentals and techniques of guitar and music through the songs of your favorite artists.

Working on a concept (such as chords, rhythm, scales, technique, theory, etc.) through real-life examples (songs) is the best way to learn the fundamentals of guitar. Check out a few sample songs used in lessons here, just a handful of the many genres covered. The main reason to work on scales is improvisation.
