Since 1970, Del Mar Hills Nursery School addresses total development of the whole child- socially, emotionally, physically, creatively, and cognitively. Through play, children develop with pleasure and natural interest. We offer children a unique environment. It is our goal to provide a balanced environment, one that includes the appropriate amount of structure and freedom, to encourage independence and avoid frustration within each child.

Our Preschool Program is intended for children as young as 2 years 6 months up until 4, children will move into our Pre-K program the Fall after they turn 4. Each Preschool child has 1 1/2 hours of group time with their age specific group each day, mastering skills across several developmental areas.

Del Mar Hills Nursery School is licensed for 60 children. It admits children from 2 1/2 years, through the age of six. A child may not be six on the first of September but may turn six during the school year. A child needs to be toilet learned before beginning school. While recognizing that accidents do happen, we do not have a diaper changing area for children still wearing diapers.
Terms of Enrollment

Each child has a reserved place for the current school year; no tuition refunds or make-up time can be given. Therefore, as the school is open year-round and the staff is present, no exceptions to this policy can be made. Tuition is due on the first day the child attends school and on the first day of each month thereafter.
Philosophies

Children have always had an innate ability to play with objects in their environment. In the 1830s, Fredrich Froebel concluded that students who began their education at the ages of seven and eight were already deficient in their ability to learn. When he recognized that structured play of very young children could provide a basis for their formal education, he began devising materials and games for two to six year olds.
Montessori

Del Mar Hills Nursery School offers a variety of Montessori equipment and materials. Montessori recognizes in children a natural curiosity and desire to learn. The Montessori materials awaken this desire and channel that curiosity into a learning experience which children enjoy. Montessori materials help children to understand what they are learning by associating an abstract concept with a concrete sensorial experience.
