The Camphill School was formed when Downingtown Special School and Donegal Springs, curative homes for children that began in 1954 and 1961 in Pennsylvania, merged. The Camphill School became a Pennsylvania Approved Private School in 1980 and is accredited by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools, and the National Council for Private School Accreditations.

The first house purposely built to serve as a home for children with special needs and live-in volunteers, "Rock Crystal, " was built in 1967.Rock Crystal has the foundation stone for The Children's Village within it.

Serving children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, The Camphill School is a licensed and approved private school that offers individualized education and therapy in an extended family setting. Education and therapy take place in the larger context of extended family life. Students live in homes alongside the typically developing children of long-term volunteers.
Waldorf Education

As the only private Waldorf school accredited by AWSNA for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in North America, The Camphill School addresses the whole child: head, heart, and hands. Our adapted Waldorf curriculum presents traditional scholastic subjects, both academically and experientially, stimulating young minds and nurturing healthy emotional development.
Therapies

Physical Therapy is part of a student's educational program that helps with posture, balance, and safe independent mobility. Physical Therapy's goal is to enable each student to move to the best of his or her ability and experience movement. Students are seen on a consultative basis, where the therapist works with the teachers and staff to ensure that movement and strengthening are part of the student's daily routine.
Camphill Movement

Dr. Karl Koenig, an Austrian pediatrician who fled the Nazis and settled in Scotland in 1939, founded what is known across the world today as the "Camphill Movement." Camphill is based on the principles of anthroposophy, the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner that seeks to integrate spirit, body, and soul.
