As a naturopathic doctor, he is trained to find the underlying cause of illness instead of just treating symptoms. He looks at many factors that contribute to health.

From that, he holds one of the inaugural licences to be granted in California, subsequently being selected by the Governor to serve on a task force evaluating the new profession to California.
