My name is Doug Hoyne, I've been teaching swimming in the Hamptons since 1989. I began teaching swimming lessons that year as the swim instructor for the Hampton Day School, when we bussed the campers to Long Beach in Sag Harbor to dodge the jellyfish! That same summer I began teaching private swim lessons to some of the students and have since offered private swim lessons exclusively.

I have extensive experience with swimmers of all ages. I have coached High School and Junior High School swim teams, as well as club teams. I am a Red Cross certified lifeguard instructor and conduct classes to train new lifeguards during the winter months. During the winter I teach high school in the Lake George area.

I follow the Red Cross course of swimming instruction when teaching beginners. We begin with proper body position and kicking, and then progress through the major strokes. I teach freestyle (crawl) first, followed by breaststroke, backstroke, and lastly butterfly. Along the way we incorporate sidestroke, flip turns, and diving.
Swimmers With Special Needs
Report
I have had extensive experience as both a swim instructor and public school teacher in educating students with special needs. In the water I've accommodated students with Asperger's Syndrome, Downs Syndrome, loss of hearing which required cochlear implants, in addition to various learning diabilities.

Report
I have been fully vaccinated since March against the virus. Before each lesson I change into a clean suit, and use a new towel and face mask for each lesson. Before and after each lesson I hand sanitize. At the conclusion of each lesson I fully submerge into the chlorinated water which kills the virus according to the CDC.
