Brass Academy LLC is a private lesson studio, founded in 2018, with the goal of providing the highest quality of musical instruction to northern Virginia. We aim to offer engaging, student-tailored instruction to students of any age or skill level - from beginners to advanced.
Each of our instrument-specific teachers is qualified to teach as a college music professor (usually after doctoral studies in performance and pedagogy), and demonstrates professional level performance ability.

Dr Twentey is the founder of Brass Academy LLC and the primary instructor for all of our low brass lessons. Dr Twentey has 15+ years of experience teaching music lessons, including students at levels from beginner to collegiate. In addition to private teaching, Daniel has experience teaching brass chamber music for 3 years at CU Boulder, while studying toward his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Brass Performance and Pedagogy (completed in 2020).

Our students adjusted exceedingly well to this lesson format and continue to make excellent progress, despite the inconveniences. We treat health and safety as a top priority and intend to explore returning to in-person lesson formats as the medical professionals we consult recommend it as a safe alternative.

We aim to foster mutually positive relationships with public and private school music programs in the area. We believe that the instruction and ensemble experiences available to students at school are extremely valuable. Beyond encouraging and supporting our students' interest in school music classes & ensembles, we are happy to offer in-school services to help augment the musical education/exposure of students in our local area schools.

Our teachers are not only skilled educators, but experienced and accomplished performing musicians! Brass instruments are used in the most memorable moments of most western art music. They can produce the full spectrum of musical expression, from heroic excitement, suspenseful intensity, haunting scenes, to most beautiful, singing melodies and romantic ballads.

At this intro lesson, which often includes the parent(s) in the case of younger students, we assess the needs of the student and recommend a lesson curriculum of either 30-minute (shorter) or 50-minute (standard) sessions.
