At Mud Dabber's, we're pleased to offer one of the largest selections of locally produced pottery in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Originally established as a family business in 1988 by the John O. Dodson family, the store now features the works of over 25 local potters. In addition to our store gallery, visitors are welcome to view the working studio located next door.
Much of our pottery is fired in kilns onsite. Mud Dabbers is located in a historic general store building (1922) located on the banks of Dunn's Creek, just four miles south of downtown Brevard on Greenville Hwy/US Hwy 276. We're located about 40 minutes from Hendersonville, NC; 50 minutes from Asheville, NC and about 1 hour from Greenville, SC, in the beautiful French Broad River Valley.

Our Potters
Report
John Dodson is a second generation potter and owner of Mud Dabber's Pottery of Brevard. He began working in clay as a child with the encouragement of his father, John O. Dodson. He began wheel throwing at age 15, and continued his hobby of potting throughout college and beyond. When his parents decided in 2000 to retire from the Mud Dabbers location in Brevard, John and wife, Carol, relocated the store and took over its operation.
Special and Custom Orders
Report
We consider custom orders a very specialized service that we extend to our customers when possible. We cannot duplicate or match items: Handmade pottery has, inherently, an enormous range of variables in the steps of the process, and also in the result. This makes it an exciting medium, but also tricky in terms of trying to "copy" an item.
Holiday Open House/Celebrate December
Report
A big thank you to all who stopped by this month for our Days of December event! Though we weren't able to celebrate in our traditional way this year, we are enormously grateful to all of our loyal customers who stopped by to enjoy hot cider and peruse our wide selection of great pottery. We look forward to returning to our activity-filled Holiday Open House next year, when social distancing is hopefully not such an issue!
Mud Dabber's Pottery's 30th Anniversary Celebration
Report
Join us as celebrate our 30th anniversary with cake, pottery demonstrations, a public art project and the Mud Dabbers Pottery Olympics! The public art project will be similar to the one we did for our 20th anniversary - a pottery wall plaque that we will mount on the side of our building filled with signatures, sculptures and well-wishes from our friends.
Creating a Registry with us
Report
If you are interested in creating a registry we are happy to work with you! It is always best if you are able to make an appointment and come into the shop in person so that we can discuss all the possibilities. You may choose from any of the pieces we have in the gallery, or choose to have a potter create a custom registry for you.
