I believe that psychotherapy offers an opportunity for deep exploration and understanding--a chance to figure out who you are and what you want, protected from the din and pressure of other relationships. Confusion, worry, disappointment, loneliness, hunger, anger and stuckness are some of the feelings that can be tended to in a good psychotherapy.

By close and careful attention to your experience, I will work with you in an empathic and collaborative way to map your internal and external landscapes, identifying fault lines, discovering strengths, finding resources, and shoring up vulnerabilities. In an environment of privacy and safety you may find/re-find motivation and meaning, expanding your choices, and your sense of what is possible.

About
Report
Many years ago, I was the advertising manager for a rather intellectual literary magazine. Charged with selling advertising, I was given an American Express Card and invited people to lunch. I discovered that the conversations I engaged in, the people I engaged with, were more interesting and ultimately more compelling; and the ad space quickly faded into the background.
Relationships
Report
Neuroscience and attachment theory tell us we are hard wired for connection, in need of relationships, longing for intimacy and love. Being close, however, is not easy. Whether too close or too distant, it's hard to get it just right. I work with individuals and couples to build reliability and trust, to find ways to create, or re-create closeness and connection, or in some cases to separate.
Managing Anger
Report
Anger is an emotional, affective response to a situation in which one feels mistreated by another: mistreated, ignored, slighted, neglected. Anger is not a bad emotion. And, in fact has many necessary functions. Anger helps us to know where our boundaries are: when someone is too close, when we are being hurt, when we are being threatened, when trouble is looming.
Depression & Anxiety
Report
Depression is an overwhelming sense of sadness, irritability, or deadness that is often painfully accompanied by helplessness, despair, worthlessness, or guilt. Depression can interfere with intimate and social relationships as well as professional ambitions.

Whether your depression is reactive to recent losses, disappointments and stressors or is more cyclical--a dark retreat that re-emerges-- I will help you identify and understand the sources of your negative feelings, develop a compassionate stance towards yourself, re-establish a sense of connection to others, and find your way through to feelings of hope and possibility.Anxiety is a signal, alerting us to impending danger.
Services & Fees
Report
I provide individual therapy to adolescents, young adults, adults, and elders. Individual sessions are usually 50 minutes, but in some cases we may decide to work for longer durations. I am not a member of any managed care panels. If you have out of network behavioral health benefits, you can be reimbursed by your insurer according to your particular plan.
