The Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue (YUWR) and Education Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving the San Francisco Bay Area in California since 2001. We are dedicated to the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured wildlife living in urban city centers and education of the public about how to live harmoniously with our cities' wildlife.
When an orphaned wildlife mammal is found, we nurse these animals back to a healthy state where they are able to be released back into the wild. Through education to children and adults alike, we try to raise awareness of these wild residents of our cities in the hope that a better co-habitation will lead to less injuries/orphans and more enjoyment of the urban wildlife with which we share our cities.

Wildlife Problem
Report
Nowadays, humans and wildlife are being forced to live with each other more then ever before due to habitat encroachment as cities grow. Many people have problems with wildlife intruding into their homes and the use of trappers and pest-control companies are on the rise.
However, many trappers and pest control companies use inhumane methods which result in the slow, painful death of animals (yes this is legal), often leaving behind litters of orphaned babies for the homeowner to deal with, and charge hundreds of dollars for their services which, more often than not, fail to solve the problem. There are other more effective and humane solutions.

Skunk Problems
Report
The musky compound produced in the skunk's anal glands is their primary means of defense and can be sprayed fifteen feet or more. Skunks are infamous producers of an odor so powerful that it quickly and easily communicates a clear message: "Don't mess with me." Although known mostly for its robust smell, the chemical can also cause intense discomfort if it gets into a person's or animal's eyes.
Raccoon Problem
Report
The California Department of Public Health tracks rabies cases by county in our state. Raccoons accounted for FIVE of the approximately 2800 cases of rabies reported in California in the past 10 years. The sole raccoon case in the Bay Area occurred in Novato last year as a result of a rabid bat biting the raccoon.
Education
Report
The San Francisco Bay Area has some of the toughest inner-cities in America, we believed that having a wildlife center is important, not only for the orphaned and injured wildlife in need, but for the children of the City. We have found that the same kids who come to us from their tough, urban environment, rife with gangs and violence, open up to a baby animal in need in a way that is heart-warming and one of the sustaining rewards of this job.
