For over 25 years, Mitey Riders has provided therapeutic horseback riding for children with special needs in the Charlotte region of the Carolinas. Since welcoming our first rider in 1994, we have seen the power that horses bring to humans. We are proud to provide therapeutic riding and horsemanship experiences free of charge to our riders.
In 2016, CNN recognized our founder, Harry Swimmer, as a CNN Top 10 Hero! Check out the 3rd and 4th videos, produced by CNN, highlighting Harry's work at Mitey Riders!. Riders: Riders & people who live in the household are required to be vaccinated if they are eligible. Masks are also required to be worn by all riders.

Our mission is to improve the lives of children with special needs through creative and effective therapeutic horseback riding. Our goal is to provide opportunities to benefit from the special relationship between horses and humans. From the very first rider we placed on a horse, we believed in the power of a horse to impact a rider's perspective, strength and wellbeing.

The Mitey Riders' staff is committed to providing a safe and productive environment for our riders to be able to learn. Riding a horse produces a unique freedom and the chance to see the world from a different point of view!
About Therapeutic Riding

Therapeutic horseback riding is just one of the Equine Assisted Services (EAS) practiced around the world. EAS includes three main activities where professionals incorporate horses to improve the wellbeing of people. EAS include Horsemanship, Therapy & Learning services.
Therapy services include Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists, and Mental Health professionals who incorporate horses into a client's overall treatment plan to improve functional goals.These services are also known as Hippotherapy.

Mitey Riders was built on the belief that children's lives could be strengthened through horses. Misty Meadows was established as an 80-acre Saddlebred horse farm where champions were born and raised. Harry and Marilyn Swimmer became very successful breeders and competitors in the Saddlebred industry.

Mitey Riders staff is committed to providing a safe and productive environment for our riders to be able to learn to ride a horse. Riding a horse produces a freedom that all of us have experienced and we want to provide that freedom for our riders, to see the world from a different point of view. Connecting with a horse changes you, and we want to see that happen in our riders' lives.
