As a nonprofit community mental health provider, our caring and compassionate staff, volunteers and donors help create promising futures for children, families and adults by connecting them with services they need and deserve. Sweetser invites you to try a free and confidential online wellness tool, myStrength - the health club for your mind.

Sweetser is proud of our students - and our staff who support them - for achieving their goal of becoming high school graduates! Sweetser has special purpose private schools in Belfast and in Saco.

Sweetser is a nonprofit community mental health provider with a statewide network of care offering services to people of all ages in mental and behavioral health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, recovery, and education. Accredited by the national Council on Accreditation, Sweetser serves approximately 20,000 children and adults each year.
History
Report
15 prominent women from Portland society petitioned the state legislature to incorporate as the Female Orphan Asylum of Portland (later the Children's Home of Portland). The bill was enacted in February and on the first of April, the women opened a fully operational orphan "house" on the corner of Free & South Streets.
