Services
Comprehensive Eye Exams
Our detailed eye examinations assess visual acuity, ocular health, and systemic conditions affecting vision. Using advanced diagnostic tools, we detect early signs of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration while updating corrective lens prescriptions. Annual exams ensure optimal vision and prevent undiagnosed conditions that could lead to permanent damage, particularly for patients with diabetes or family eye disease histories.
LipiFlow Dry Eye Treatment
This FDA-cleared procedure addresses Meibomian Gland Dysfunction using thermal pulsation to unblock oil-producing glands. The 12-minute treatment improves tear stability by applying controlled heat and massage to eyelids, offering relief from symptoms like burning and grittiness. Patients typically experience lasting effects for 18 months with follow-up care including artificial tears and home compresses.
Pediatric Eye Care
We specialize in detecting and managing childhood vision issues like amblyopia and strabismus. Through developmental assessments, we identify refractive errors and binocular vision problems affecting learning. Early intervention with glasses, patching, or vision therapy ensures proper visual pathway development critical before age 9 for optimal long-term outcomes.
Glaucoma Management
Our practice provides diagnostic testing including tonometry and corneal topography to monitor intraocular pressure and optic nerve health. Treatment plans combine medicated eye drops, laser therapy, and lifestyle modifications to slow disease progression and preserve vision for patients with this asymptomatic but vision-threatening condition.
Sports Vision Training
Customized training programs enhance visual skills critical for athletic performance, including depth perception, eye tracking, and reaction time. Through specialized exercises and equipment, we help athletes improve hand-eye coordination and environmental awareness to boost competitive performance and reduce injury risk.

Dr. Claire Schmidt is fantastic! I have been attending Univ Eye Assoc at the Davidson location since moving to the area in 2013. Without fail, Dr. Schmidt never ceases to amaze me with her thorough exams and careful explanations. She kindly answers any questions you might have and really goes above and beyond any doctor I have ever had. She is so great that 2 of 5 years I have been seeing her, I have made sure to schedule around her maternity leave as to make sure I can see her and no one else! Highly recommended.

Optical shop staff is also very helpful and they have a nice selection.

A friend recommended them and I am so happy she did. I had only one day off to make the appointment for my daughter and they were able to get her in. On the day of the appointment we were a little late bc Mapquest took me to the wrong place. The receptionist was so nice and welcoming. We only waited a little while. They took us in and examined my daughter. We only waited about 5mins for the doctor and she quickly examined my daughter. They were very friendly and easy going with my daughter. They had a ton of frames to choose from. Since she is 11 they told us she could she pick from either the
